Philipp Baben der Erde was born in 1981 in Wismar (GDR) and now lives in Berlin and Paris. He began his career as a photographer in 1999. He began as an advertising, fashion and design photographer. At the same time he worked for the film studios Babalesberg as a cinematographer, specializing in the techniques of stop motion and effects. During that time he worked with many companies such as Arte, Columbia Pictures, MTV, Amnesty International, UNICEF and Apple. In 2005 he decided to enter the contemporary art scene with more vigour, which allowed him the opportunity of partaking in numerous exhibitions in Berlin and around the world (Paris, Cannes, London, New York, Munich, Berlin) During his apprenticeship at the prestigious DFFB (The German Film School), Philipp Baben der Erde gained a lot of invaluable experience. He now works as a director and cinematographer of music videos, documentaries, advertisements and short films. In 2006 he shot his first feature film by the name of “Thekla”.
His latest films, which he shot as a cinematographer: 1. “Bonzenkarren” (Arte co production) was introduced at the “International Film Festival Cannes 2008” 2. “weisst du eigentlich das ganz viele blumen blühen im park” was introduced at the “International Film Festival Berlinale 2011” Philipp Baben der Erde was involved in the art direction and public relation work of several events in Germany and France.
